So, you are getting married! Congratulations!

Let us help make your special day be beautiful by preparing you for your first dance as husband and wife. Bring your song to the studio, and we will tell you what kind of dance to learn for it. Of course, like anything, the more you practice the more confident you will be, so leave an appropriate amount of time to learn and be comfortable. While you may desire a choreographed routine, knowing how to dance a variety of popular dances will enable you to enjoy dancing together to not just one song, but instead to lots of songs throughout that special day. Imagine impressing your family and friends with your dancing skill! We would like to hope that you will spend a lifetime dancing together because of the dance ability you have gained from the professionals at Fred Astaire.

The First Dance

Picture this scene. You are making all the necessary arrangements for that all-important day and you go to the DJ or bandleader and pick your music. He then asks you: "What song would you like for your first dance?" You panic. You sweat. Your hands are clammy. THE FIRST DANCE! All eyes are on you, the couple of the day. Yuck! Fear not. You need not panic! A little preparation will go a long way. Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Hanover can help you feel relaxed and at ease whether you are dancing your First Dance , dancing to a calypso band on a Caribbean Island, or waltzing in the cafes of Europe. Here are our tips when preparing for your first dance:

1. Take Lessons Well In Advance.
You want learning to dance to be an enjoyable and stress-free experience, and the earlier you start, the more time you will have to make changes in your music, style of dance, etc. before your big day. Six to nine months before the wedding date is the best time to start. That will give you enough time to be able to enjoy each other on the dance floor and get you accustomed to dancing in a social atmosphere before dancing for the first time at your actual wedding!

2. Keep Your Options Open.
Find a few songs you both like and work with your dance instructor to choose the song that feels most comfortable for you. Take into account whether you will have a band or a DJ at your reception. If you have a live band, ask for a recording of their version of your song -- don’t assume your band will play your song exactly the same way as it sounds on your Nat King Cole CD.

3. Keep It Simple
You will look better and keep your audience’s attention longer if you dance a few great moves to two to three minutes of a song than a dozen so-so moves to a five-minute epic version of the song.

4. Wear The Shoes You Plan To Wear At The Reception To Your Dance Lessons
You will want to make sure your shoes are comfortable and that you are used to dancing in them so that you won’t have to worry about slipping across the dance floor or having pinched feet.

5. Have Fun
Use your lessons as time together away from the stresses of planning your wedding. Focus on each other and agree to have a good time! Consider inviting family members or members of your bridal party to take dance lessons as well.

6. Practice Between Lessons
The more you practice, the more confident and comfortable you will feel on the dance floor at your wedding and when you go out dancing during your honey moon.

7. Don't Sell Yourself Short
Even if you think you have two left feet and no rhythm, you can become a good dancer with proper instruction and the right attitude!
